About me
Martha Meyer is a library paraprofessional in the Early Learning and Literacy Department at Evanston Public Library, specializing in both infant/toddler literacy and on theater programming for elementary school kids. She spent years sharing new nature books with local preschool teachers, home daycare providers and center directors at local nature focused and early childhood focused conferences, since many teachers have less time to read and evaluate new books. Come library awards time, she was often frustrated that great nature books were passed over for national recognition. Prompted by the pandemic, she and a team of library professionals, nature center staff and sustainability managers created a new award, The Blueberry Award, to honor the year's best nature and climate books for kids 3 - 10+. She's recently completed a year long certificate program in Contemplation and Creation Care from Deep Green Faith. She's a vegan for the climate, with a garden, a compost pile, and solar panels on her roof.
